Separation Services

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR)

Together, we'll find a way to find agreement and positive outcomes for everyone involved in separation.
Overview

Our Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) service supports separating parties with respectfully negotiating parenting, property, and financial issues following separation.

Your FDR practitioner will tailor the process specifically to the needs of you and everyone else participating.

Who is this service for?

FDR is for partners and families who are separating or have separated. We understand that it’s not only the separating parties who can be involved, so grandparents, aunts, uncles, and stepparents involved or in a supporting role are welcome to join the process.

This service was incredible. As a parent, I’ve felt lost but this has given me a lot of hope and the support I’ve needed.

How can I access Family Dispute Resolution?

To access FDR, you will need to contact Relationships Australia Qld and an appointment will be made for you at a nearby venue. From there, you and your family will undergo an individual intake session, whether that’s in person, over the phone, or over Zoom. From there, a Family Dispute Resolution practitioner will determine if it is the right fit for your situation.

If FDR is about children’s matters, information will be provided in the children’s best interests, and Child Consultants may be involved where appropriate and agreed.

What do I need to know about Family Dispute Resolution?

FDR can often take more than one meeting, and each session normally takes 2 – 3 hours. The meeting can take place separately or jointly, in person, phone or Zoom. The safety and comfortability of everyone is a primary consideration.

The agreements reached in Family Dispute Resolution are drawn up and committed to in good faith. If you would like these agreements to be made legally binding, you discuss how to make that happen with your Family Dispute Resolution practitioner.
